About UC FAQ

To answer some of your questions as quickly as possible, we've compiled a list of those most frequently asked by Union Colony parents. Be sure to read more throughout this website and in our student handbooks so that you're well-informed and prepared to support your child through a successful educational journey.

How do I enroll my child at Union Colony?

We are thrilled to welcome new members to our community! Please visit our Admissions page for information about enrolling your child at one of our schools. You may also fill out the registration form online, then bring any other required documentation to the main office of the school your child will attend.

Does your school offer breakfast and lunch?

We operate an excellent nutrition program at each campus. Our cafeterias serve breakfast and lunch every school day for a reasonable price. We also participate in the federal free and reduced price lunch program for those who qualify. For more information or to apply for free/reduced meals, please see our Food Services page.

What if my child requires medication during the school day?

We will administer medication in accordance with state regulations and with physician and parental approval. Please complete our medication authorization form, and bring medications in the original, labeled packaging to the front office.

Do you provide transportation services?

We are pleased to provide our students with safe, reliable transportation between each of our campuses. We consider bus riding a privilege and expect all students to adhere to the rules for their own safety as well as the safety of others. If you are interested in utilizing these services, please complete an application. There is an annual lottery due to a limited number of bus seats. We will generate a waiting list once the lottery is complete and all seats have been filled.

What is Infinite Campus, and how do I get a username and password to use it?

Infinite Campus is just another way we keep communication between home and school strong. It provides you with almost real time access to your child's grades, attendance history, and other important information. To receive your login information, please call the front office.

What do I need to do if my child will be absent from school?

If your child must miss school, please call the school office on the day of his/her absence. For information about attendance requirements and what qualifies as an excused absence, please refer to the appropriate student handbook.

What if my child needs to leave school early?

A parent or guardian must sign out and pick up students at the front office. Students with a valid driving license who can drive themselves may leave campus with prior written permission from a parent/guardian and approval from the principal.

Do you enforce a dress code at Union Colony?

We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard, violate municipal, county, or state law, or present a potential disruption of the educational process. Generally, we require:

  • Any clothing item or accessory that causes a disruption to school safety, personal safety and/or the learning environment may result in discretionary intervention by school administrators.
  • Tops - Undergarments are not exposed or seen through clothing--exception: the upper straps of a sports bra may show near the neck of a dress-code appropriate top.
  • No tank tops, muscle shirts, tight fitting, or revealing shirts. Shirts must conceal cleavage, sides, back, and midriff. Shoulder straps must be at least the width of a student ID card.
  • No hats or sunglasses inside of the school building. If wearing "hoodies", the hood may not be on your head inside of the school. (Religious head-wear is an exception.)
  • Bottoms - Undergarments are not to show or see-through clothing. Material must be thick enough to cover undergarments completely.
  • Hemlines for shorts must reach to the end of fingertips when the arms are straight and shoulders relaxed.
  • Hemlines and slits for skirts must be one vertical student ID length above the top of the kneecap or longer. No pajama pants. Items must be clean and must fit the waist (no sagging). Lightly distressed clothing is okay. Holes that show skin must be at the knee or below. Patched/repaired clothing is okay as long as it meets the other dress code requirements.
  • Jewelry - All jewelry must meet logos/graphics expectations. A single nose piercing is okay but no larger than 16 gauge or can be a single hoop; no other facial piercings. No items that have the potential to inflict injury (no spikes such as piercings, necklaces, or bracelets).
  • Shoes - Students must wear soled shoes or sandals at all times (for example, no "bedroom" slippers or similar footwear).
  • Logos/graphics - All text and/or pictures must be appropriate. No alcohol, tobacco, sex, drugs, nudity, weapons, gang related commentary, or profanity allowed. No social, ethnic/racial, or religious slurs allowed. Students must cover tattoos that violate dress code.
  • We will ask students who are in violation of the dress code to wear clothing provided by the school or sent home to change their clothing. Students who refuse to abide by the dress code face disciplinary action.

Will my child have access to the Internet while on campus?

Students can access the Internet for homework and school-related research from our computer lab, library, and some classrooms under the supervision of qualified school personnel. We require all students to abide by our Acceptable Use Policy (which can be found in our student handbooks). We expect our students to behave responsibly on school computer networks.

May my high schooler drive to and from school?

Yes, and student parking is available with a parking permit. However, students may not drive any time during school hours including class breaks and lunch periods. Also, students may not sit in their vehicles during the lunch period.

How can I get more involved?

We strongly encourage your involvement. Please take the time to introduce yourself to your child's teacher and let him or her know that you're interested in getting involved. Our parent organization, Union Colony Friends, meets every month to plan school activities, and our Accountability Committee meets quarterly. We invite all parents to attend and share your thoughts, questions, and concerns with us. Look for meeting dates on our school calendar. Parents can also support their child's education in some basic ways, including:

  • Encouraging your child to get plenty of sleep
  • Offering a healthy diet, including a good breakfast (or getting your child to school early enough to eat breakfast in our cafeteria)
  • Helping your child get up in plenty of time for school
  • Providing neat, clean, comfortable clothes
